The most famous Roman of all times?

Who is the most famous or best known Roman of all times? Good question…
Well now it is sorted out.

I did a google search by using names of some famous Roman characters. Then I listed hits on table below. I was expecting Gaius Julius Caesar to win but for my surprise we received an unexpected winner – Claudius! Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus won all the others clearly. I am happy for that because he is my favorite character. When thinking more it is not surprising. When I was young in seventees there was tv-series called Claudius-Claudius. It was actually rather famous in my home country and probably made a strong impression for many viewers. And anyways Claudius was a good Caesar.

Person………………..hits
Julius Caesar……….94 800 000
Marc Antony………….9 090 000
Octavianus Augustus…….629 000
Gnaeus Pompeius………..119 000
Scipio Africanus……….396 000
Tiberius Claudius………388 000
Caligula…………….8 770 000
Claudius…………..360 000 000
Nero………………282 000 000
Belisarius…………….624 000
Constantine……………806 000
Livia…………………508 000
Marcus Agrippa……….4 540 000
Marcus Aurelius………..587 000

Hannibal Barca…………398 000
Vercingetorix………….724 000
Cleopatra…………..51 700 000

Second place went to Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus. Because of his half mad character he had also remained into history. Also from him there are some nice movies which are more or less interesting. Anyway he was disturbed young man who was not fit to run Rome – but came to his position by treachery.

Clearly less hits received Gaius Julius Caesar. That is surprising because he was the greatest Roman leader. Nobody could use army, people and politics as him to get where he wanted. Also from him there are several movies but maybe Caesar’s character was too clear to be interesting enough. Still 94 800 000 hits is great.

Marc Antony takes fourth place. Great achievement. Anyways he was a real interesting character as was his end. He was a joyful man for life and brave but little bit too simple minded warrior. But great person. He was out manouvered by Augustus. But in this fight he won clearly Augustus.

Hmm … Caligula takes fifth place. He was insane ruler who was killed by his own guards. He was so crazy that nobody felt safe and they needed to get rid of him. But because his colorful and odd character he is well known.

Marcus Agrippa – one of my favorite also – gets good sum of hits. Not bad at all. He is the Roman whose name can still be seen in many places like on facade of Pantheon and theatre in Merida. Yes he was loved by Romans. And Augustus was in depth of all his success to Agrippa.

Also Constantine the Great gets rather good sum of hits but still he is left far behind of top. Also Augustus and Pompeius. Famous Byzantine – Eastern Rome – warlord Belisarius gets rather high amount of hits. Good performance.

Lets see then Roman enemies – what we find there?
Yes who else but Cleopatra. The Egyptian Quees get high amount of hits and she is famous. And not without reason. He spent some good times with Caesar and Antony and became part of history in Actium. Finally beaten by Augustus. The greatest enemy of Rome – Hannibal – gets terrible low amount of hits. Too bad. Google don’t make honor to him. Vercingetorix get nearly twice amount of hits but gets beaten again clearly by Caesar. He will remain in history because one of the worst battle result of history. In Alesia some 300 000 Celts were beaten by handful (30 000) Romans.

However Rome collapsed 1500 years ago. Still they are remembered today – great! And wherever you go you find something about Romans. Yes Romans were the greatest thing ever happened in face of the earth…
