Iron soldiers II – German tanks

In Patriot park there is now gathered a significant group of famous tanks. Here are some German ones – the famous ones.

The one below is Nashorn. There are two left in the world and this one lies in Patriot park. It was used as a tank destroyer and therefore it had an efficient 88 mm barrel. Barrel is very long and thus gives high speed for grenade and an exact hit to target.

.
The next one Jagdtiger – is a real monster. It was built on chassis of Kingtiger and it had an efficient 128 mm main gun. One can say that Jagtiger was the “King” of tank destroyers. Of course heavy weight was a drawback and anyway it came too late in production to has any effect.

.
Jagdpanther. Obe of the most efficient tank destroyers of the WWII. It was fast and it’s 88 mm canon was efficient against any opponent. Also the nice sloping shapes make it robust against enemy grenades.

.
This is Ferdinand. On e can see it because it does not have maschine gun in front – liken in Elephant. There is only one Ferdinand left and it is here in Patriot park. Very nice tank destroyer – my favorite.

.
Brummbär had a 150 mm main gun and it was used to support infantry in city areas. It was able give straight fire against enemy and was thus able to help foot soldiers more in close combat than traditional artillery.

.
Nebelwerfer was used to hit enemy with rockets or to spread smoke. This one is installed on half-track.

.
This one is the famous Tiger I in Patriot Park. Rather well preserved. It has kind of angular shape and partly because of that it remains in memory as a special looking tank. It is legendary because of its efficiency and nice looks. A German tank commander Otto Carius also told in book that it was very easy to manage and drive.

.
Sturmtiger was planned to help in city fights. It was meant to achieve a great destruction with it 380 mm RW 61 rocket launcher L/5.4. However it has very small role in the end of the was. It was built on Tiger I chassis.

.
Sturminfanteriegeschütz StuIG33B was a self-propelled assault gun that had a main gun of 150 mm. These were built on chassis of Sturmgeschütz III. Only few were built and they fought e.g. in Stalingrad.

.
This one was the real workhorse of the war – PzKpfw IV. It has 75 mm main gun in the end of the war and it was a good challenge of any allied tank in western front. It was built in really big numbers from beginning to the end.

.
A genuine German halftrack with a Nazi-flag in installation in Patriot park.

.
Here as last a German SdKfz 222. It was an armoured car with main gun 20 mm KwK 30 L/55 and machine gun. Very nice looking.
